Michael Saylor Says ChatGPT Helped Strategy Raise $15 Billion

Michael Saylor says artificial intelligence played an important role in helping him design financial products that ultimately allowed Strategy to raise billions of dollars from investors.
The Strategy executive chairman, one of Bitcoin’s most prominent corporate advocates, recently said he used ChatGPT while developing new preferred-stock structures for the company. Saylor has gone as far as crediting his use of AI with helping Strategy generate roughly $15 billion in financing.
Saylor did not use ChatGPT to trade Bitcoin and make $15 billion in profit. He also did not personally earn $15 billion from an AI-generated investment strategy.
Instead, he says AI helped him think through unconventional financial products that Strategy subsequently used to raise capital from investors. Much of that capital has been connected to Strategy’s broader strategy of financing its Bitcoin accumulation.
Fortune highlighted Saylor’s comments on August 6, reporting that he credited ChatGPT with helping him develop financial structures that ultimately contributed to billions of dollars in capital raised. Fortune’s report on Saylor’s AI comments
Saylor Says He Designed Financial Products With AI
He was trying to solve a specific corporate finance problem.
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has transformed itself from primarily a business intelligence software company into what it describes as a Bitcoin Treasury Company.
The company has repeatedly raised money through common stock, convertible debt and preferred stock and used some of those funds to acquire additional Bitcoin.
As Strategy expanded that model, Saylor began looking for other financial instruments that could attract different groups of investors.
In an interview discussed by CCN, Saylor explained that he used artificial intelligence while working through the structure of Strategy’s preferred stock products. He described going back and forth with AI while considering how the securities could be designed.
One of the most notable products to emerge was STRC, formally known as Strategy’s Variable Rate Series. A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock.
Saylor has said that AI helped him work through questions around how a preferred stock could pay regular dividends while being designed to trade close to a stated value of $100.
His description of the process is closer to using ChatGPT as a brainstorming and analytical partner than simply asking the AI to produce a finished financial product.
What Is STRC?
STRC is a perpetual preferred stock issued by Strategy.
Unlike ordinary Strategy shares, STRC is structured more like an income-oriented financial product. It pays a variable dividend and was designed to appeal to investors looking for yield rather than primarily seeking exposure to movements in Strategy’s common stock.
Strategy initially launched STRC in July 2025.
According to the company’s filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the initial STRC issuance generated approximately $2.47 billion in net proceeds.
Strategy said when announcing the offering that the proceeds could be used for general corporate purposes, including acquiring additional Bitcoin.
STRC was not Strategy’s only preferred-stock product.
The company developed a family of securities including:
- STRK, known as Strike
- STRF, known as Strife
- STRD, known as Stride
- STRC, known as Stretch
- STRE, known as Stream
These products have different dividend rates, conversion features, seniority and risk profiles.
By March 31, 2026, Strategy’s SEC disclosures showed that the initial offerings of these preferred stocks alone had generated billions of dollars in proceeds.
